8 dioptres correspond to roughly 3× magnification – the strongest magnification in the Lumeno range. The working distance is then about 12.5 cm, and the field of view is noticeably smaller than with 3 or 5 dioptres.

When 8 dioptres are worth it

For inspecting and checking rather than for hours of continuous work: SMD components and solder joints, hallmarks and stamps on jewellery, coins and stamps, watch movements, burrs on small parts. Anyone sitting under the lamp all day is better served by 3 or 5 dioptres and a larger field of view – and reaches for the stronger lens when a close look is needed.

Two ways to get 8 dioptres

Either the 721X with an 8-dioptre lens straight away, or you upgrade a lamp you already own: the 127 mm replacement lens with 8 dioptres fits common magnifying lamps with a 127 mm lens, for example the Lumeno 710X, 721X and 821X, and is available as a standard or a crystal-clear version. Swapping the lens is also the usual route when requirements change or a lens gets scratched.
